Qualifications
There is no legal requirement for a nanny to be qualified, good practical experience can be accepted by parents as being sufficient. There are a number of training qualifications available for nannies.

Here is a list of some of them:

BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing) The certificate is a one-year full-time course offered to mature candidates. The diploma is a two-year full-time course.

CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education (previously known as the NNEB).
This is a two-year full-time course, but can also be obtained through part-time study. The Council for Awards in Children's Care and Education (CACHE) awards the qualification.

Montessori Childcare and Teaching Diploma.
Various private organisations offer full-time, part-time or correspondence courses in the Montessori approach to working with children.

NAMCW (National Association for Maternal and Child Welfare) Certificate or Diploma. One-year course for the certificate and two years for the diploma.

NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications).
NVQs in Childcare and Education are awarded for competence in work situations and so reflect knowledge and understanding of the work concerned. A level 3 NVQ is regarded as being equivalent to NNEB diploma.
